10. Perform the Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure
A. Use Tooling E to inspect the interior of the SCR mixer of the
Clean Emissions Module (CEM) for blockage caused by deposits.
Remove the DEF Injector to gain access. Refer to Illustration 79
and Illustration 80 for examples of deposits/blockage in the SCR
mixer. Refer to Illustration 81 for an example of a clear mixer.
Reinstall the DEF injector to the SCR mixer after this check is
complete.
Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, DEF Injector and Mounting -
Remove and Install.
B. Connect to the electronic service tool.
Note: During the following step, there are two versions of the
“Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure” . One version is for engines
with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The other version is for en-
gines without a DPF. Ensure that the correct procedure is used.
C. Perform the “Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure” .
Note: The “Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure” may need to be
repeated up 3 times if deposits were observed in the SCR mixer to
ensure that all deposits are removed from the system. If no depos-
its are observed in the SCR mixer, only perform the “Aftertreat-
ment Recovery Procedure” once.
Note: Engine RPM Override may be necessary to complete the
Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure.
Test successful Result: The “Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure” com-
pleted successfully and no further evidence of deposits in
the SCR mixer.
Proceed to Test Step 11.
Result: The “Aftertreatment Recovery Procedure” was
not successful.
Contact the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
Provide a full Product Status Report (PSR) with histo-
grams and the regeneration history.
11. Perform an ““Aftertreatment System Functional Test””
A. Start the engine.
B. Connect to the electronic service tool.
C. Use the electronic service tool to perform the “Aftertreatment
System Functional Test”
Test successful Result: The test completed successfully.
Return the unit to service.
Result: A 4364-18 (E1309 (2)) with no ETI is active.
Proceed to Test Step 10.
Result: A 4364-18 (E1309 (2)) with an ETI code of 1 is
active.
Proceed to Test Step 12.
