Troubleshooting Test Steps

1. Check for Active Diagnostic Codes
A. Connect to the electronic service tool. If necessary, refer to
Troubleshooting, Electronic Service Tools.
B. Check for active diagnostic codes.
Diagnostic codes Result: One of the diagnostic codes listed in Ta-
ble172 is active.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: None of the previous diagnostic codes
are active.
Return the engine to service.
2. Check if a Replacement DEF pump Eliminates the Fault
A. Make sure that the latest flash file for the application is installed
in the DCU.
B. Install a replacement DEF pump. Refer to Disassembly and
Assembly, Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump - Remove and Install for
the correct procedure.
Reset the Dosing Control Unit (DCU) and install new DCU soft-
ware. Refer to Troubleshooting, ECM Software - Install (Dosing
Control Unit) for the correct procedure
Note: If this repair is part of a warranty claim, refer to Special In-
struction, M0119435
C. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Use the electronic serv-
ice tool to perform the “Aftertreatment System Functional Test”
and verify that the repair eliminates the fault.
DEF Pump replaced Result: The DEF pump was replaced.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Perform a DEF Dosing System Verification Test
A. Turn the keyswitch to the “ON” position. Do not start the
engine.
B. Connect the electronic service tool.
C. Perform the “DEF Dosing Verification Test” .
Diagnostic codes Result: The code did not return.
Return the unit to service.
Result: The code returned.
