Planning the Site and Installation
Preparing for Installation 3-5
Table 3-8 lists the power and port connections for AC and DC power, MIC and native ports, and operations
ports.
Select the Rack
You can mount the SmartEdge 100 chassis in a standard 19- or 23-inch rack. If you use a standard 7-foot
45 rack unit (RU) rack, you can install up to 22 SmartEdge 100 chassis in a single rack for maximum
density; see Figure 3-1. If density is not a consideration, you can mount the chassis in a standard 42 RU
rack. As shown in Figure 3-1, the SmartEdge 100 chassis requires two RUs (an RU is 1.75 inches [4.5 cm]).
MIC dimensions 1.6 inches (4.0 cm) height
5.3 inches (13.4 cm) width
6.1 inches (15.4 cm) depth
Note Chassis depth dimension does not include front cable management brackets.

Caution Risk of equipment damage. In a rack that has not been stabilized, the chassis can cause a rack
to overbalance. To reduce the risk, never install the chassis in a rack that has not been stabilized
by being bolted to the floor and to the ceiling and always select a mounting position that is
suitable to the type of rack in which the chassis is being installed.
