Thismachineusesfourimagingunitsandfourlaserbeamsforcolorprinting.EachImagingunitconsistsofaDrum
unitandDeveloperunit.
EachDrumunithasanOPCdrum,Chargeroller,Cleaningbrush,Cleaningblade.
TheOPCdrum[A]ischargedwithanegativevoltageandisexposedbythelightfromtheLSU(LaserScanningunit)[B].
ThelightproducedbythelasercreatesalatentimagebydischargingonthesurfaceoftheOPCdrum.Thenegatively
chargedtonerisattractedtothelatentdrumimageduetoanelectriceld.Thetoner(realimage)oneachOPCdrumis
movedtothetransferbelt[C]bythepositivebiasappliedtothersttransferroller.Allfourtoners(colorimage)are
transferredtothepaperbyapositivechargeappliedtothesecondtransferroller[D].
1)OPCdrumcharge:Thechargerollergivesthedrumanegativecharge.
2)Laserexposure:LightproducedbyalaserdiodehitsthechargedOPCthroughthelensandmirrors.
3)Development:Thedevelopingrollercarriesnegativelychargedtonertothelatentimageonthedrumsurface.This
machineusesfourindependentimagingunits(oneforeachcolor).
4)Transfer:
•Imagetransfer:ThersttransferrollersoppositetheOPCdrumstransfertonerfromthedrumstothetransfer
belt.Fourtonerimagesaresuper-imposedontothebelt.
•Papertransfer:Thesecondtransferrollertransfersthetonerfromthetransferbelttothemedia.
5)CleaningforOPCdrum:Thecleaningbrushandbladeremoveremainingtoneronthedrumsurfaceafterimage
transfertothepaper.
6)QuenchingforOPCdrum:Quenchingisdonebyilluminatingthewholeareaofthedrumwiththelaserattheend
ofeveryjob.
7)Cleaningandquenchingfortransferbelt:Thecleaningbrushandbladecleanthebeltsurface.Thegroundingroller
insidethetransferbeltunitremovestheremainingchargeonthebelt.
