actually be ‘B’ of another. If the polarity is wrong, the data will be inverted. Usually the simplest
way to solve the issue is the trial and error method, as RS-485 signals can be connected only two
ways.
16.2.5 Programming mode adapter
The wiring below is for configuring the radio modem via the Programming mode.
Switch position acts the following way; closed=ON=Programming mode, open=OFF=Data
transfer mode. While the modem is in Programming mode (Switch closed) Modem has serial
port parameters set to a known state of 38400N81 for easy accessing the modem.

16.3 Antenna installation
16.3.1 Hand-held equipment
• ¼-wave antenna (wavelength at frequency of 450 MHz is approximately 70 cm)
• Helix-antenna
Antennas are installed directly to the TNC connector at the upper part of the radio modem.
16.3.2 Mobile equipment
• ¼-wave antenna
• ½-wave antenna
The ideal installation position is vertical, and there should be at least 0.5 m of free space around
the antenna. A separate ground plane should be placed under the ¼-wave antenna (vehicle
