Centrifuge Module Interface Operating Instructions Glossary
092D0001-02 Rev. A page 107
Robot arm Mechanism that extends from the z-post of a robot
assembly and contains a set of grippers at the end of
the arm.
The robot arm contains a tube or rack release button
that allows the operator to open the grippers
manually, when necessary.
Robot head The upper part of the robot assembly that connects
data and power cables to the motors, and connects an
air line to the grippers.
A z-post attached to the robot head supports the robot
arm.
Rotor Four-pronged mechanism that holds bucket
compartments while they spin during the centrifuging
operation.
Router Software that routes sample tubes to the appropriate
stations by controlling the divert gates and interface
gates.
The Router software communicates with the ADVIA
CentraLink system and determines, based on system
configuration inputs, the sequence of stations for
delivery of the sample tube. The Router also balances
the workload between stations that have the same
instruments or modules.
Sample Test tube filled with a substance requiring testing or
processing.
Samples may include serum, whole blood, plasma,
cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), urine, and QC materials.
Sample Manager Module that moves sample tubes from input trays to
the conveyor for processing. When processing is
complete, the Sample Manager moves the samples
from the conveyor to output trays.
Sample tubes Thin plastic container, open at 1 end, containing a
sample.
Scale Weighs sample tubes and cassettes to distribute the
weight evenly before the robot places the cassettes in
the Hettich unit.
The scale weighs sample tubes and cassettes after
centrifugation to ensure sample weight integrity.
