BACnet Communications
Introduction
BACnet is a standard communication protocol for

uilding

utomation and
C
ontrol
Net
works
developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE). BACnet provides the communication infrastructure needed to integrate products
made by different vendors. BACnet communication is based on standard objects. Each
BACnet device includes a Device Object and other optional objects within the device. Each
object has associated properties.
The A5E31949269 communications module functions as a BACnet master device on an
Ethernet or MSTP RS485 network. A typical illustration of how this might be configured in a
plant network is shown in the figure below.
