8 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Eight 6V lead-acid batteries in series or two 24V lithium
batteries in series are used to drive the travel motor and
hybrid motor to realize boom movement, turntable rota-
tion and steering while traveling, and provide 12V con-
trol power for the whole machine through DC converter.
The batteries in one of the battery box are used to pro-
vide emergency power for the whole machine.
All batteries are charged via external power source. A
power switch is used to protect the control system.
The maintenance of electrical equipment is essential for
the proper and safe operation of the machine. If continu-
ing to use the machine with electrical components dam-
aged or corroded, it may lead to unsafe operation or
serious personal injury.
8.1 BATTERY
The batteries used include 3 types: lead acid battery,
lead acid maintenance-free battery and lithium battery,
and the latter two batteries do not need maintenance.
Inspection
Battery condition will affect machine performance and
operation, and the following checks should be per-
formed on the battery at specified intervals.
Check the battery level. The battery should not be
discharged more than 80% of the total capacity, and
should be charged immediately after each
discharge.
Check the harness retaining nuts between the bat-
tery cells. Make sure that the retaining nuts are tight-
ened with the correct torque, and refer to the Torque
Specifications section for the tightening torques.
Check the battery harness connections. Make sure
that the battery harness connections are firmly con-
nected and not corroded, and the positive and nega-
tive poles are not reversed.
NOTICE
Improper connection may result in reduced per-
formance and damaged terminals, fusion, or even
fire.
Check whether the inside and outside paint of the
battery is damaged. If any damage is found, repair
the paint immediately to protect the outer box insula-
tion and avoid corrosion.
Check the battery box for water accumulation. If any,
blot up the accumulated water immediately.
Clean the area around the battery regularly. Use
cloths or brushes to regularly clean the top, terminals
and connections of the battery with mixed liquid of
baking soda and water, dry it with cloths after clean-
ing, and apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or add
terminal protectors to prevent cleaning solution from
entering the battery.
NOTICE
Adding terminal protectors and anti-corrosion
sealants will prevent the battery terminals and ca-
bles from corrosion.
The instructions below are applicable only for batteries
requiring maintenance. Before performing inspection,
please fully charge the battery and hold it still for 24
hours to equalize the battery cells.
1. Wear protective clothing, protective gloves and pro-
tective glasses.
2. Remove the battery vent cover.
3. Top up the hydrometer and drain it two or three
times, and then take a sample from the battery elec-
trolyte with the hydrometer.
4. Measure the specific gravity of all battery cells in se-
quence and note down the readings.
5. If the ambient temperature is above 27 (80),
add 0.004 to calibrate the specific gravity reading
for every 5 (40) higher; if the ambient tempera-
ture is below 27 (80), reduce 0.004 to calibrate
the specific gravity reading for every 5 (40°F)
lower.
Result 1: if the specific gravity reading of all bat-
tery cells is 1.250 or higher, and the reading dif-
ference between any two cells is less than
0.050, proceed with the next step.
Result 2: if the specific gravity reading of one or
more battery cells is below 1.250, it indicates
that the battery is running low and needs charg-
ing. After charging, measure the specific gravity
reading, if it meets the Result 1, proceed with
the next step.
Result 3: If the specific gravity reading difference
between any two cells in the battery pack ex-
ceeds 0.050, equalize the battery pack and hold
it still for 6 hours before re-measurement of the
specific gravity readings. If satisfying the Result
1, proceed with the next step.
