Glossary
The following terms are used throughout the guide.
Aux CID On/Off :
A Message Center feature that causes Caller ID information to
be announced at the auxiliary speaker.
Aux Volume:
A Message Center feature that lets you adjust the auxiliary speaker
volume: 1 = low; 2 = medium; 3 = high. Notice that the Keypad volume adjustment
is described in the instructions included with the Keypad.
Arm/Disarm:
Armed simply means that the burglary portion of your system is
turned ON and is in a state of readiness. Disarmed means that the burglary
system is turned OFF, and must be rearmed to become operational. However, even
in a disarmed state, emergency and fire portions of your system are still
operational.
Bypass:
To disarm a specific area of burglary protection while leaving other areas
operational.
Caller ID:
A service of the telephone company that lets you see or hear the name
and phone number of a caller before you pick up the phone. You must subscribe to
this service to activate certain Message Center features.
Caller ID Log
: A Message Center feature that lets you view the Caller ID
information for calls received.
Call Screening
: A Message Center feature that lets you listen-in while a caller
leaves a message. The caller cannot hear you. You then have the option of
answering the call or letting the system record a message. See also Hands Free.
CID Display On/Off
: A feature that causes Caller ID information to be displayed
at Message Center Keypads.
Common Mailbox:
A mailbox to which all users have access.
Day/Night Zone
: An area of protection whose violation causes a trouble indication
during the disarmed (DAY) mode and an alarm during the armed (NIGHT) mode.
Delay Zone:
An area of protection containing doors most frequently used to enter
or exit (typically, a front door, back door, or door from the garage into the building).
The delay zone allows sufficient time for authorized entry or exit without causing an
alarm. Consult your installer for the entry and exit delay times that have been set
for your system during installation and record them on the separate sheet provided
in this guide.
Distinctive Ring:
A Message Center feature that lets you assign the number of
short rings the phone will make when incoming calls from a particular number are
received.
