V7.6
It can be difficult to understand the reason for failed measurements. The GapGun returns the following codes to
help in diagnosing failed measurements:
ERR11
Too many failed frames. The measurement fails when less than 50% of the minimum number
of frames required were successful (default 12 so 6 frames required). This is typically because
Characteristics measurement points are misconfigured or Action settings are unsuitable for the
shape being measured.
ERR12
Too many outlier frames. The measurement fails when less than 50% of the minimum number
of frames required are left after failed, out-of-range and outlier frames are removed (default 12
so 6 frames required). Outlier frames are ones where a Characteristic values are too different
from the same Characteristic in the other frames.
ERR13
Variation too high.
(7.3 and later) The measurement fails when variation, Cg, in results from usable frames when
compared to guard tolerances (10mm, 0.5” or 10°) is less than 4/3. Variation for characteristics
with other units is not checked. (See ERR17.)
(7.2 and earlier) The standard deviation across the frames was too high, 3xSD is greater than
1.0mm or 1/25.4 inches or 1 degree or 0.017 radians.
ERR14
Too many out-of-range frames. The measurement fails when less than 50% of the minimum
number of frames required left after rejecting failed and out-of-range frames. Out-of-range
frames are ones where a Characteristic value is lower than the Min or greater than the Max
value for that Characteristic.
ERR15
No characteristics. No Characteristics were configured in the feature.
ERR16
Characteristic was not found. Typically a Characteristic isn't returned from co-processing be-
cause the Characteristics in the Feature in SPC3D is different from the same Feature on the
GapGun.
ERR17
Variation too high for required tolerance.
(7.3 and later) The measurement fails when variation, Cg, in results from usable frames when
compared to the tolerances set for the Characteristic is less than 4/3. Variation is only check for
Characteristics with units in mm, inches or degrees.
Note: Cg is an instrument capability index which indicates the suitability of an instrument to
measure a part within a given tolerance band
Cg = (allowable variation)/(actual variation)
The actual variation is the 6 x (SD of instrument) measuring a single part by a single operator.
ERR18
Calibration missing or invalid for image data that requires it (7.4 later and SPC3d only)
ERR21
Too many failed frames on all characteristics. The characteristic was not calculated because one
or more other characteristics produced ERR11.
ERR22
Too many outlier frames on all characteristics. The Characteristic was not calculated because
one or more other Characteristics produced ERR12.
ERR24
Too many out-of-range frames on all characteristics. The Characteristic was not calculated be-
cause one or more other Characteristics produced ERR14.
ERR50
Invalid number.
The calculated value was an invalid number. This indicates an unexpected internal error.
ERR
Unknown error.
The measurement is invalid but no specific error code was available.
