8.1.7 Polarization Parameters - Definitions
In this section all used in the PAX1000 software polarization parameters are explained.
Azimuth / Ellipticity
See section Polarization Ellipse or Poincaré Sphere .
DOP
Degree of polarization; it is the ratio of the polarized power to the total power of the measured
light signal. It is calculated as follows,
Note
S1, S2, S3 and S0 are the non-normalized Stokes Vectors!
DOLP
Degree of linear polarization, it is the ratio of the linearly polarized share of polarized power to
the total power. Its calculated as follows,
Note
S1, S2 and S0 are the non-normalized Stokes Vectors!
DOCP
Degree of circular polarization, it is the ratio of the circularly polarized share of polarized power
to the total power. Its calculated as follows,
Note
S3 and S0 are the non-normalized Stokes Vectors!
Power
is the total optical power, incident on the PAX1000.
P
Pol
is the polarized share of the total optical power.
P
Unpol
is the unpolarized share of the total optical power.
