The rear seat can be fol ded down fro m
the l uggage compart ment. Open the
back door and pull the l ock release le-
ver to fold down the rear seat.
Before f olding down the r ear seat , sl ide
the rear s eat fully backw ard and pull it
forward slightly until it locks. Then raise
the armrest until it locks.
Folding down the seats wil l enlarge the
luggage c ompartment . See “ Luggage stow-
age precaut ions” on page 402 in Section
2 for precaut ions when loading luggage.
CAUTION
Do not fol d the rear seat back when
the rear passengers sit on the rear
seats or the l uggage is placed on the
seat. Make sur e that no passengers
or luggage are on the rear seats.
RETURNING SEATBACKS
Raise the seatback until it locks.
CAUTION
Do not all ow passengers to ri de on
the folded seat or in the l uggage
compartment whi le driving; use the
seat in its normal posit ion.
When retur ning the seatback to the
upright posi tion, obser ve t he fol low-
ing pr ecautions in order to prevent
death or serious injury in the event
of a sudden st op, sudden swerve or
accident:
D Make sure the seatback is securely
locked by pushi ng for ward and rear-
ward on t he top of the seatback.
Failure to do so will prevent the
seat belt from oper ating properl y.
D Make sure the seat belt s are not
twist ed or caught i n the seat back
and are ar ranged in their proper
positi on and ar e ready to use.
