OCCUPANT RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
A chi ld restr aint system for a smal l
child or baby must itsel f be properly
restr ained on the seat wi th eit her the
lap belt or the lap por tion of the l ap/
shoulder belt. You must car efull y con-
sult t he manufactur er ’s inst ructions
which accompany the chi ld restrai nt
system.
To prov ide pr oper restr aint, use a c hild
restraint system following the manufactur-
er ’s inst ruct ions about the appl icabl e
chil d’s age and si ze of the c hild r est raint
system.
Toy ota rec ommends that you us e a chi ld
restraint system which conforms to the
regulat ion “ECE No.44”.
Install the child restraint system correctly
followi ng t he i nstr uctions prov ided by its
manufact urer. Gener al dir ections are al so
provided under the following illus trat ions.
The child restraint system should be
inst alled on t he rear s eat. Ac cordi ng to
acci dent s tati sti cs, the c hild is safer when
properl y r estr ained in the r ear seat than
in the front s eat.
CAUTION
When t he chil d rest raint system i s
not in use:
D Keep the child restr aint system
properl y secur ed on t he seat even
if it is not in use. Do not stor e t he
restr aint unsecured i n t he passen-
ger compartment.
D If i t is necessary to detach the
child restr aint system, remove it
from the vehicl e or stor e it secur ely
in t he luggage compartm ent. This
will prevent i t f rom injur ing passen-
gers in the event of a sudden st op,
sudden swerve or accident.
Depending on the type of your c hild re-
straint system, you will need a loc king cl ip
to install a child restraint system properl y.
If your child restraint system does not
provi de a l ock ing c lip, you can purchas e
the followi ng it em f rom any author ized
Toyota deal er or repai rer, or anot her duly
qualifi ed and equi pped profes sional .
