1. Star t the engi ne as ins truc ted i n “How
to st art t he engine” on page 410 i n
Secti on 3. The tr ansmis sion must be in
“P”or“N”.
2. Wi th your foot holdi ng down t he br ake
pedal, shif t the shif t lever to “D” .
When t he l ever is in the “D” pos ition, t he
automatic transmission system will select
a s uitabl e gear f or running condit ions such
as normal c ruis ing, hill cl imbing, har d tow-
ing, etc .
Always use the “D” posit ion f or bett er fuel
economy and quieter dri ving. I n thi s posi-
tion, s hift ing int o t he ov erdr ive gear is
possi ble.
CAUTION
Never put your foot on the accelera-
tor pedal while shif ting.
3. Releas e the par king brak e and brake
pedal. Depres s t he acceler ator pedal
slowl y for smooth st arting.
AI (Artificial Intelligence) shifting con-
trol—
AI shift ing contro l selects the most
suitable shift range aut omatical ly ac-
cording to the dr iver ’s operat ion and
driving condit ion.
AI shi fting cont rol operates aut omatical-
ly with the shi ft lever i n t he “D” posi-
tion. When in “ M” mode, thi s function
will be cancelled.
D Shift ing control on the slope:
On i ncli nes, y ou c an dri ve smoot hly
with r educed shift ing quanti ty. On de-
cli nes, the vehicl e will shif t down aut o-
matic ally t o obt ain opt imum engine
braki ng and reduc e the dr iver’s foot
braki ng load.
D Automati c shifting point change con-
trol:
The most suit able shi ft r ange is se-
lect ed dependi ng on the driv er ’s accel-
erator pedal operation and vehic le con-
dition.
