The four −wheel driv e loc k indic ator wi ll
come on for a few seconds when the
“ENGINE START STOP” swi tch i s s et at
IGNITION ON mode.
If the indic ator light does not come on
when t he “ ENGINE START STOP” swi tch
is set at IGNITI ON ON mode or the four−
wheel dri ve l ock s witc h is pushed, cont act
any aut horiz ed Toy ota deal er or repair er,
or dul y qualifi ed and equipped pr ofess ion-
al.
NOTICE
Use t he f our−wheel dri ve l ock only
when driving on the loose surfaces,
such as sand, gravel, or deep snow,
or if the vehicle gets st uck. Af ter the
four−wheel drive lock i s used t o pr o-
vide t raction, cancel the f our−wheel
drive l ock. Using t he four−wheel dri ve
lock at other ti mes may cause dam-
age to the four−wheel drive system.
SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING
The mast er warni ng light and the warni ng
messages on t he multi−information display
warn t hat t here i s a pr oblem s omewhere
in the Active Torque Control 4WD system.
If t he w arning mess age appears , a buz zer
will als o sound.
If the “ High tr ansfer case oi l t emp.”
message appears and the master war n-
ing light flashes...
This i ndicates that the dr ivel ine tempera-
ture has become too high. Without turning
off t he engi ne, do ei ther of the foll owing
to cool the driv eline:
D Reduce vehic le speed unt il the war ning
message and light go off.
D Stop the vehic le at a safe place and
allow the engine t o idl e until t he waring
message and light go off.
If oper ation of the v ehic le i s cont inued
while the war ning light is f lashi ng, t he
system automatically shuts off the engine
torque that is appli ed to the r ear wheels
to pr otect the dr ivel ine. If thi s happens,
the “2WD” warni ng message will appear
and the mast er war ning li ght wi ll fl ash
faster.
When the dr iveli ne temper ature fal ls
enough, the light wil l go off.
