ENGINE (IGNITI ON) SWITCH, TRANSMISSI ON AND PARKING BRAKE
With the vehi cle trav eling at a s peed of
25 km/ h (15 mph) or les s, r elease t he
brake pedal and ac celer ator pedal to acti-
vate the system. The vehicle will descend
the hill at a low speed.
While the system is operat ing, the s lip
indic ator l ight wil l fl ash and the s topli ghts
and high mount ed st oplight will be li t. A
sound may al so occur during the opera-
tion. This does not indicat e a mal functi on.
If the brakes are applied while the system
is oper ating, a k ick back fr om the brake
pedal may r esult and a sound may oc cur.
This does not indi cate a malfunc tion.
If the “DAC” switch is pushed to turn the
system off while it is in oper ation, the
system will stop operating gr adually. The
downhill assist control system indicator
light will flash to alert the driver. To con-
tinue dr ivi ng at a low s peed, pus h the
“DAC” switch to turn the system on.
Vehicles without s mart entr y and start sy s-
tem—The s lip indicat or light and downhil l
assist control system indicator light come
on for a f ew s econds when t he engine
swit ch is turned to t he “ON” pos iti on. If
any of t he indic ator li ghts does not c ome
on when the engi ne switc h is t urned t o
the “ON” positi on, cont act any author ized
Toyota deal er or repai rer, or anot her duly
qualifi ed and equi pped profess ional.
Vehicles with smar t entr y and star t sys-
tem—The s lip indicat or light and downhil l
assist control system indicator light come
on for a few seconds when the “ ENGINE
START STOP” switc h i s in IGNITI ON ON
mode. If any of t he i ndicat or light s does
not come on when the “ENGINE START
STOP” swit ch is in IGNI TION ON mode,
contac t any authori zed Toy ota dealer or
repair er, or anot her duly qual ifi ed and
equipped profes sional .
If the brake actuator t emperatur e bec omes
too high, the downhil l as sis t contr ol s ys-
tem i ndicat or li ght wil l flas h and a buzzer
will star t t o s ound int ermit tently. This indi-
cates that the system cannot operate for
much longer. In thi s c ase, s top the vehic le
immediatel y in a safe place.
If the system continues t o operate while
driv ing, the buz zer wil l sound for about 3
seconds . T he system will temporarily stop
operati ng i n or der to prot ect t he brak e
actuat or. Although the downhi ll ass ist con-
trol system is not operat ing, it is stil l pos-
sibl e to continue your dr iving.
The oper ation of the system will be auto-
matic ally r estor ed after t he actuator c ools
down. The downhill assist control system
indic ator li ght c hanges fr om bli nking t o
remaining on af ter operation is restored.
