sibl e, at a r ight angle. Avoid dri ving
onto high, s harp−edged objec ts and
other road hazar ds. Fail ure to do so
can lead to severe tire such as a tire
burst .
Driv e s lowly when pas sing over bumps
or trav elling on a bumpy r oad. Other-
wise, the impact c ould cause s evere
damage to the tires and/or wheel s.
D When parking on a hill, turn the front
wheels unt il they touc h the c urb so
that t he vehic le wil l not rol l. Appl y the
parki ng brak e, and pl ace the tr ansmis-
sion in “ P” ( automati c trans miss ion or
Multidrive) or in first or reverse (manu-
al transmi ssi on). If nec essar y, bl ock
the wheels.
D Was hing y our vehic le or dr ivi ng through
deep water may get the brak es wet. To
see whet her t hey ar e w et, c heck t hat
there is no traff ic near y ou, and t hen
press the pedal l ightly. If you do not
feel a normal braking force, the br akes
are pr obably wet. To dr y them, drive
the v ehicl e caut iously while l ightl y
press ing the br ake pedal with t he park-
ing brake appli ed. If they st ill do not
work saf ely, pull to the si de of the road
and c all any authorized Toy ota dealer
or repai rer, or another duly quali fied
and equipped profes sional , for assis-
tance.

When driving up s teep hills in high
temperat ure conditi ons, engine output
may be int entionall y r estr ained on v e-
hicles wi th the 2AD−FHV engine and
automatic trans miss ion to prot ect t he
engine and its component s. Following
may occ ur, but they do not indic ate a
malfunc tion:
· You may ex perienc e a dr op i n s peed.
· Air condi tioning system control may
be c hanged. For exampl e, the butt on
to swi tch bet ween outsi de air mode
and reci rcul ated air mode will be
fix ed in r ecir culated air mode.
