If your vehi cle becomes stuck in snow,
mud, sand, etc., then you may attempt
to r ock the vehicle free by movi ng it
forwar d and backward. Turn off the
tract ion control system and/or VSC+
system if t hese functions ar e hamper ing
your attempts to free the vehicle. (For
details, see “ Tracti on contr ol system”
and “Vehicle stability control+(VSC+)
system” on page 262 and 267 i n Sec-
tion 1−7.)
Four−wheel dri ve models—
You can use t he f our−wheel dri ve l ock
switch in this situation. (For details,
see “Acti ve Torque Control 4WD sys-
tem” on page 260 i n Section 1−7.)
CAUTION
Do not at tempt t o r ock the vehicle
free by moving it forward and back-
ward i f people or objects are any-
where near the vehi cle. D uring the
rocking operat ion the vehicle may
suddenly move forward or backward
as it becomes unst uck, causing injury
or damage to near by peopl e or ob-
jects.
NOTICE
If you r ock your vehicle, observe the
followi ng precauti ons to prevent dam-
age to the transmi ssion and other
parts.
z Do not depress t he acceler ator ped-
al while shift ing the shift lever or
before the transmi ssion is com-
pletely shif ted to for ward or reverse
gear.
z Do not race the engine and avoid
spinning the wheels.
z If your vehicle remains stuck after
rocking the vehi cle sever al t imes,
consider ot her ways such as tow-
ing.
