Only i n an emer gency, such as if it
becomes impossi ble t o stop the vehicle
in the normal way, stop the vehicle us-
ing the followi ng procedure:
1. Steadi ly s tep on the brake pedal wit h
both feet and fi rmly depr ess it. Do not
pump the brak e pedal r epeatedly as
this will i ncreas e the effor t requi red to
slow the vehi cle.
2. Shif t t he shi ft l ever to “ N” or neutr al.
If the shift lever i s shi fted to “N” or
neutral:
3. Aft er slowing down, st op t he vehicl e i n
a safe place by the road.
4. Stop the engine.
If the shift l ever cannot be shifted to
“N” or neutr al:
3. Keep depr essi ng the br ake pedal with
both feet t o reduce vehi cle s peed as
much as poss ible.
4. Vehic les wi thout a smar t ent ry and
start system—Stop the engi ne by tur n-
ing the engine swi tch t o the “ ACC”
posit ion.
