8–2 iSTAR Ultra Installation and Configuration Guide
Overview
The iSTAR configuration is accomplished using the C•CURE Administration Station and the
iSTAR Configuration Utility (ICU).
iSTAR Ultra Limitations
To install a factory default iSTAR Ultra Master, the following guidelines should be followed:
1. On a DHCP-enabled network, use ETH1 of the iSTAR Ultra default setting to connect. The
ICU and HOST can then be used to configure the iSTAR Ultra. It is also an option to set
ETH1 to a static IP address. Software House recommends using DHCP if possible.
If a redundant network connection is required on ETH2, use the ICU to change the
network setting of ETH2 to either a proper network IP or DHCP, prior to connecting ETH2
to the network.
2. Use ETH2 NIC of the iSTAR Ultra to connect to network without a DHCP server or
initially configure in a standalone environment. The iSTAR Ultra ETH2 NIC port is set to
a static 192.168.1.253. Use the ICU, on a PC or laptop connected directly to the iSTAR Ultra
to configure the connection
.
3. Never connect more than one factory default iSTAR Ultra to a network via ETH2.
Otherwise, multiple Ultra panels will expose the same default IP 192.168.1.253 address
and cause duplicate IP issues.
4. Software House recommends that iSTAR Ultra members (not Masters) use only ETH1 for
a network connection.
ICU
The ICU provides iSTAR configuration, diagnostic, and troubleshooting options.
Use the ICU to designate the master controller, define master IP addresses, and define the IP
address for the C•CURE host. Other configuration information should be defined and
downloaded from the C•CURE host. However, sites that use locked IP addresses to provide
local management can use the ICU utility for local cluster configuration.
To ensure correct configuration, the information that you enter in the ICU must match the
information that you enter in the C•CURE Administration application.
NOTE
The ETH2 and ETH1 NICs use an autosense function for speed and MDIX
crossover. You do not have to use a crossover cable for the direct
connection.
NOTE
Software House recommends that you use the ICU only for initial setup of
master controller address information and for occasional troubleshooting.
This is because configuration information in the C•CURE is downloaded
to iSTAR and overwrites the values that you specify in the ICU.
