6.4 Draining the central heating system
If the ENTIRE SYSTEM needs to be drained:
• Switch on the boiler, select Heating Only
Mode and allow the boiler to fire. Refer to
Section 3.6 for how to operate the appliance;
• Isolate the electricity and gas supplies to the
boiler and wait for the boiler to cool down;
• Connect a hosepipe to the system drain
point and locate the other end of the hose in
a suitable drain;
• Open the boiler drain valve, located on the
bottom of the pump manifold (see Figure
36);
• Open the air vents on the radiators, starting
with the highest and moving down the
system to the lowest;
• When the system has been drained, close
the radiator air vents and the boiler drain
valve.
If ONLY THE BOILER needs to be drained:
• Switch on the boiler, select Heating Only Mode and allow the boiler to fire. Refer to Section 3.6 for how to
operate the appliance;
• Isolate the electricity and gas supplies to the boiler and wait for the boiler to cool down;
• Close the isolating valves on the heating circuit flow and return pipes;
• Connect a hosepipe to the system drain point and locate the other end of the hose in a suitable drain;
• Open the drain valve located at the bottom of the boiler on the pump manifold (see Figure 36);
