Installing the Crankshaft
1. Apply engine oil to each crank journal
(Figure 5-83, (1)) of the cylinder block
(Figure 5-83, (2)) and each mating side of the
main bearing inserts. Bearings with an oil
groove should be positioned on the upper side
(block side). Install thrust bearings so that oil
grooves are positioned to the outside.

2. Lubricate each crank pin and crank journal. Set
each journal in the main bearing of the block.
3. Lubricate both surfaces of each cap side main
bearing and install each main bearing insert to
the cap.
4. Oil the bolt holes of each bearing cap. Install
bearing caps (Figure 5-85, (2)). Tighten each
cap bolt to the specified torque value. NOTICE:
Check that the arrow mark (Figure 5-85, (1)) on
each bearing cap faces in the flywheel direction
and that the match mark on each cylinder is
correctly aligned.
