PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
PROCEDURES
Inspect Before Starting
Be sure to check the following before every engine
start:
Visual Inspection of Engine
Check the Fuel Level
Check the Engine Oil Level (Crankcase)
Seawater Outlet
Check Coolant Level
Check All Alarm Indicators
Check for Engine Fluid Leaks
Check the Electronic Control System
Visual Inspection of Engine
Correct any problems before operation.
Look for:
Oil leaks
Fuel leaks
Coolant leaks
Damaged or worn parts
Loose or missing bolts
Fuel, coolant hoses, cracked V-belts, loose
clamps and fasteners
Check the Fuel Level
Check the fuel and fill if necessary.
Check the Engine Oil Level (Crankcase)
1. Check the engine oil level with the dipstick
(Figure 4-1, (3)). Insert the dipstick fully to
check the level.

5–Lower Limit
The oil should not be dirty and should have
appropriate viscosity. No coolant or diesel fuel
should be present. The level should be between
the upper (Figure 4-1, (4)) and lower limit lines
(Figure 4-1, (5)) on the dipstick.

2. If oil level is low, fill to the specified level through
the filler port. NOTICE: Avoid overfilling the
engine oil. Add oil to the upper limit line on the
dipstick. Overfilling may induce oil into the
combustion chamber and damage components.
