4.6 Configuring QoS Queue and Class Setup
This sect ion cont ains tutorials on how you can configure the QoS screen.
Lets say you are a team leader of a sm all sales branch office. You want to priorit ize e- m ail traffic
because your task includes sending ur gent updates t o client s at least t wice every hour. You also
upload dat a files ( such as logs and e-m ail archives) to t he FTP server t hroughout t he day. Your
colleagues use t he I nt ernet for research, as well as chat applications for com m unicating wit h other
branch offices.
I n t he following figure, your I nt ernet connection has an upst ream transm ission bandwidt h of
10,000 kbps. For this example, you want to configure QoS so t hat e-m ail t raffic gets the highest
priorit y with at least 5,000 kbps. You can do the following:
Configure a queue t o assign the highest priority queue (1) t o e-m ail t raffic going to the WAN
interface, so that e-m ail t raffic would not get delayed when t here is net work congest ion.
Not e the I P address ( 192.168.1.23 for exam ple) and/ or MAC address ( AA: FF: AA: FF: AA: FF for
exam ple) of your com puter and m ap it to queue 7.
Note: QoS is applied t o traffic flowing out of t he Device.
Traffic t hat does not m atch this class is assigned a priorit y queue based on t he internal QoS
m apping table on the Device.

Your computer

Other traffic: Automatic classifier
and/or
MAC=AA:FF:AA:FF:AA:FF
Email traffic: Highest priority
