Wireless Basics
Wireless” is essent ially radio com m unication. I n t he sam e way t hat walkie- t alkie radios send and
receive inform ation over the airwaves, wireless net working devices exchange inform at ion wit h one
anot her. A wireless net w orking device is j ust like a radio that lets your com put er exchange
inform at ion w ith radios at t ached to other com put ers. Like walkie- talkies, m ost wireless networking
devices operat e at radio frequency bands t hat are open to t he public and do not require a license to
use. However, wireless net working is different from t hat of m ost tradit ional radio com m unications in
that there a num ber of wireless networ king standards available wit h differ ent m et hods of dat a
encrypt ion.

7.2 The General Screen
Use t his screen to enable t he Wireless LAN, ent er t he SSI D and select the wireless security m ode.
Note: I f you are configur ing the Device from a com put er connected t o t he wireless LAN
and you change the Devices SSI D, channel or securit y set t ings, you will lose your
wireless connection when you press Apply to confirm . You m ust then change t he
wireless settings of your com puter t o m atch the Device’s new settings.
