7.10.7 Preamble Type
Pream ble is used t o signal that dat a is com ing to t he receiver. Short and long refer to the lengt h of
the synchronizat ion field in a packet.
Short pream ble increases perform ance as less t im e sending pream ble m eans m ore tim e for sending
dat a. All I EEE 802.11 com pliant wireless adapters support long pream ble, but not all support short
pream ble.
Use long pream ble if you are unsure what pream ble m ode ot her wireless devices on t he network
support, and to provide m ore reliable com m unicat ions in busy wireless net works.
Use short pream ble if you are sure all wireless devices on t he net work support it, and to provide
m ore efficient com m unications.
Use t he dynam ic sett ing to aut om atically use short pream ble when all wireless devices on t he
net work support it, ot herwise the Device uses long pream ble.
Note: The wireless devices MUST use t he sam e pream ble m ode in order to com m unicate.
7.10.8 Wireless Distribution System (WDS)
The Device can act as a wireless network bridge and establish WDS ( Wireless Distribut ion System )
links with ot her APs. You need t o know the MAC addresses of the APs you want to link to. Once the
securit y sett ings of peer sides m at ch one anot her, the connect ion bet ween devices is m ade.
At t he t im e of writing, WDS security is com pat ible with ot her ZyXEL access point s only. Refer t o
your other access point ’s docum entat ion for details.
The following figure illustrates how WDS link works between APs. Notebook com puter A is a
wireless client connect ing to access point AP 1 . AP 1 has no wired I nt ernet connect ion, but it can
est ablish a WDS link with access point AP 2 , which has a wired I nt ernet connection. When AP 1
has a WDS link with AP 2 , t he not ebook com puter can access t he I nternet through AP 2 .

7.10.9 WiFi Protected Setup (WPS)
Your Device supports WiFi Prot ect ed Set up ( WPS) , which is an easy way t o set up a secure wireless
net work. WPS is an indust ry st andard specification, defined by t he WiFi Alliance.
