Quadrupole Boards
The quadrupole boards are mounted on the side plates. They perform these
functions:
• Provide the 1 MHz reference clock for the RF amplifier.
• Generate the RF component of the voltage applied to the quadrupole mass
filters according to a signal from the main board. The amplitude of this
voltage is proportional to the mass selected.
• Generate the DC component of the voltage applied to the quadrupole mass
filter. The magnitude of this voltage is proportional to the RF voltage.
• Monitor for RF faults and shut down the analyzer if one is detected.
