4 Open the vent valve by turning it counterclockwise 45 degrees. (See
Figure 47.)
5 Verify that the MSD power cord is plugged into a grounded building’s main
receptacle.
6 Turn on the MSD by pressing the On/Off switch on the front of the MSD.
7 Press lightly on the side board to ensure a correct seal. Press on the metal
box on the side board.
8 Close the vent valve when it makes a hissing sound. (See Figure 47.)
The foreline pump will make a gurgling noise. This noise should stop within a
minute. If the noise continues, there is a large air leak in your system,
probably at the side plate seal, the interface column nut, or the vent valve.
9 Start the Agilent MassHunter GC/MS Acquisition software.
