Troubleshooting PNA Series Microwave Network Analyzers
Measurement System Troubleshooting N5230C
• W9 for Port 2 of analyzers without Option 1E1 (no source attenuators)
• W40 for Port 1 of analyzers with Option 1E1 (with source attenuators)
• W41 for Port 2 of analyzers with Option 1E1 (with source attenuators)
2. Using a 5/16-inch torque wrench, disconnect the semirigid cable at the A17 MASS 26.5.
3. Connect the spectrum analyzer to the open connector. Set the spectrum analyzer to measure a signal at
1 GHz.
4. If the 1 GHz signal is not present, replace the A17 MASS 26.5. Refer to “Removing and Replacing the A17
MASS 26.5” on page 7-26.
5. If the 1 GHz signal is present and the analyzer has source step attenuators, reconnect the cable to the
A17 MASS 26.5 and continue testing at “Checking the A23 and A24 60-dB Source Step Attenuators
(Option 1E1)” on page 4-39.
6. If the 1 GHz signal is present and the analyzer does not have source step attenuators, replace the
appropriate test port coupler. Refer to “Removing and Replacing the A21 and A22 Test Port Couplers” on
page 7-36.
Checking the A19 MASS 50 and the A21 and A22 Test Port Couplers
1. Locate the following semirigid cable at the appropriate output of the A19 MASS 50:
• W8 for Port 1 of analyzers without Option 1E1 (no source attenuators)
• W9 for Port 2 of analyzers without Option 1E1 (no source attenuators)
• W40 for Port 1 of analyzers with Option 1E1 (with source attenuators)
• W41 for Port 2 of analyzers with Option 1E1 (with source attenuators)
2. Using a 5/16-inch torque wrench, disconnect the semirigid cable at the A19 MASS 50.
3. Connect the spectrum analyzer to the open connector. Set the spectrum analyzer to measure a signal at
1 GHz.
4. If the 1 GHz signal is not present, reconnect the cable to the A19 MASS 50 and continue testing at
“Checking the A18 MA 26.5” on page 4-39.
5. If the 1 GHz signal is present and the analyzer has source step attenuators, reconnect the cable to the
A19 MASS 50 and continue testing at “Checking the A23 and A24 60-dB Source Step Attenuators
(Option 1E1)” on page 4-39.
6. If the 1 GHz signal is present and the analyzer does not have source step attenuators, replace the
appropriate test port coupler. Refer to “Removing and Replacing the A21 and A22 Test Port Couplers” on
page 7-36.
