Compliance, safety, and intended use
Sensor
Sensors are sensitive to excessive radiation: focused sunlight, UV light, lasers, and
X-rays can damage the sensor. Dirt and scratches can damage the sensor as well.
Alvium USB cameras do not need additional cleaning. Cameras are cleaned before
shipping. Incorrect cleaning can damage the sensor or the filter. Therefore, never
clean the sensor or the filter.
Protect the camera filter and the sensor from dirt, because dirt becomes more
visible the closer it gets to the sensor. In addition, keep the back lens clean. Hold
the camera with the lens mount facing the ground to keep dirt out of the lens
mount as shown in Figure 8 on page 60.
When no lens is mounted, protect the sensor and filter by a dust cap.
Possible damage to image sensors due to electrostatic charge
Generally, bare board cameras and cameras with incomplete housings are very
sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) as electronics components are not
protected.
In some rare cases, electrostatic charge occurring on the surface of the image
sensor may cause damages to particular pixel groups, which may become visible as
bubbles or blobs in the image generated by the sensor.
Therefore, it is very important to comply with ESD protection measures in
accordance with technical standards.
