8.0 Target iSCSI cold start procedure
This section covers how to complete the following tasks:
1. Install iSCSI boot firmware.
2. Configure iSCSI boot firmware.
3. Install Red Hat software.
4. Install ACE Target software.
Important Do not connect Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM) switches to the system during the
cold start procedure. If you run into an issue with the procedure while using a KVM, dis-
connect it, and repeat the cold start procedure with a dedicated keyboard, monitor, and
mouse.
Important: Some INTEL ETcards require a slightly different process than is outlined in Sec-
tion 8.1, "Install iSCSI boot firmware" below and Section 8.2, "Configure iSCSI boot firm-
ware" on page 24. If these instructions fail to complete for your ET card, please contact
ASTi for additional instructions.
Note: The instructions outlined below are based on version 20.0 of the INTEL Ethernet Con-
nections boot utility, reboot images, and EFI drivers. Earlier or later versions of the INTEL
Bootutil program may require minor modifications to the process. Refer to INTEL doc-
umentation as required.
8.1 Install iSCSI boot firmware
Important: To identify the Ethernet port for iSCSI, type ethtool -p ethN, where Nis the Eth-
ernet port number. Press Enter. Check the rear panel of the server, and note which Eth-
ernet port is blinking.
If you previously installed the iSCSI boot firmware, skip to Section 8.2, "Configure iSCSI boot
firmware" on page 24. To install the iSCSI boot firmware, follow these steps:
1. Download the Intel® Ethernet Flash Firmware Utility program (i.e, BootUtil) from the
Intel download center. For more information, see www.intel.com.
2. Follow the Intel instructions to start up BootUtil on the Telestra Target, or contact ASTi
for a prebuilt image.
3. Type bootutil -FE -NIC=X, where X is the iSCSI NIC interface. Press Enter.
