12.0 Options files

In the Remote Management System (RMS), the Options Files page allows you to view and man-

age Telestra Options files. When you order a new product, ASTi provides you with an Options

file. An Options file is an encrypted file that activates certain software packages on the Telestra

Target system(s). The Options file also enables the system’s credits, which provide the upper

limit of functionality for you to build and run models.

The Options file is a program-specific file containing information about all of the Telestra Target

systems delivered under that program. A single Options file installed on multiple Telestra Target

platforms only activates the appropriate software packages on each platform. As defined by the

Options file, software functionality links directly to the Telestra Target system’s hardware con-

figuration.

For example, ASTi may ship two Telestra Target systems with serial numbers 98001 and

98002. If Telestra Target 98001 is intended for use as an high-level architecture (HLA) and high

frequency (HF) radio server, while Telestra Target 98002 is the network Terrain Propagation

Server, then a single Options file activates only what you ordered on each Telestra Target. The

Options file activates HLA and HF software on 98001 but only Terrain software on 98002. The

same Options file activates both systems.

However, if you install that same Options file on Telestra Target system 97123, it does not activ-

ate any additional software, since it does not contain information for this system.

Note: As program requirements grow and additional Target systems are added to the net-

work, ASTi re-issues the Options file to include all previously-delivered systems, including

any new ones. Again, one Options file takes care of all the Telestra Target systems under

one program.

Telestra Target systems runs with base software functionality if no Options file is installed on the

system or if the installed Options file does not contain information for that system.
