OPERATION
Digital Stereo Line Level Inputs
These inputs are typically used to connect to machines, such as tape decks,
cart machines, CD players, etc., that provide digital outputs.
Producer Talkback Input
This input is provided to allow a line level signal from a remote location
to perform the talkback to Studio function. This input will only be heard in the
Studio output, and cannot be assigned to any fader or to any other monitor.
Sources - Not Exactly the Same as Inputs
The word source is used to describe any audio signal that is used to drive
a particular section of the console. For the 14 non-caller FADERS, the source
will be one of the inputs to the console, but in the case of other sections of the
console, such as meters, monitors, and caller feeds, the source may be an input,
or it may be one of the console outputs, or buses.
Faders - Using the Inputs
Although many different input signals can be wired to the console, the
console only has 16 FADERS (2 PHONE FADERS, described below, plus 14
additional faders). In order for the audio from an input to be heard in any of
the main or mix-minus outputs it must first be SELECTED by a non-caller
FADER. This process is explained in detail in a later section of the manual.
For all 14 non-caller faders, the switched meters, and the Control Room
and Studio monitors, it is possible to have no source assigned by dialing up the
selection OFF. See the section on selecting sources for details.
Phone Faders
Two of the console’s inputs are dedicated as the sources that feed the
PHONE FADERS. No other inputs can be selected as sources for the PHONE
FADERS, and the two caller inputs cannot be selected as sources for any of
the 14 non-caller faders.
Outputs - What Comes out of the Console
The console main outputs include two main stereo buses (PGM and AUD),
two main mono buses (MONO1 and MONO2), two mono caller feed mix-
minus buses (CF1 and CF2), and two general purpose mono mix-minus buses
(MXM1 and MXM2).
Monitor outputs include a stereo Control Room output, two stereo outputs
for the Studio section (one is pre-fade, which means it is not affected by the
Studio level control), a mono pre-fade cue output (not affected by the cue level
control), a mono talkback output, a stereo pre-fade line level headphone
output (not affected by the headphone level control), and a stereo headphone
jack.
