OPERATION
STUDIO Display
The four character STUDIO DISPLAY shows the source that is selected
for monitoring in the Studio.
STUDIO Level Control
The STUDIO LEVEL CONTROL determines the overall loudness of the
signal being monitored as it appears in the Studio speakers.
NOTE: If the Studio is muted and you turn the level control all the way
up, then remove the condition that has the Studio muted, the sound in the
Studio speakers will suddenly be VERY LOUD!
Talkback Button
There may be times when the console operator wants to talk to one of the
talent in the Studio. When the TALKBACK button in the Studio Monitor
section is pressed the operator’s mic will interrupt the speaker feed that is
normally heard in the studio.
If the Producer talkback port has been activated, the audio from that port
will override both the studio source selection and the console TALKBACK
interrupt.
If there is a live mic in the studio which has activated the mute feature,
talkback will also be muted in the speakers. However, if the installer has
provided a headphone feed to the studio, that feed may not be muted.
Talkback to phone callers is accomplished via the phone CUE BUTTON,
as previously described.
Meter Section
The METER SECTION consists of two VU METER PAIRS, a METER
SELECT BUTTON, and a METER DISPLAY.
VU Meter Pairs
The VU METER PAIRS are stereo LED bargraph type meters. The level
of the signal being metered is indicated by the number of display elements
that are lighted. The more elements lighted, the stronger is the signal being
displayed. The top three LEDs in each bargraph are red to indicate when the
signal level is approaching a clipping (distorted) level. The next ten LED’s
are yellow, indicating a normal level range, and the remaining LED’s are
green. The left member of the pair indicates the level of the signal’s left
channel, while the right member of the pair indicates the level of the signal’s
right channel. Peak, Over, and Low indications are also provided.
The first VU METER PAIR shows the level of the PGM output, while the
second VU METER PAIR (the SWITCHED METER PAIR) shows the level
of the signal that is selected for it.
The SWITCHED METER PAIR can meter any signal appearing at a
console input connector, in which case the input’s left signal appears on the
left meter and the input’s right signal appears on the right meter.
