OPERATION
quiet source is placed in cue) then it seem as if the interrupted speakers or
headphones have stopped working. If you suddenly lose audio in the head-
phones or Control Room speakers, check to make sure you don’t have a quiet
channel in cue.
Studio Monitor
In many applications, in addition to the Control Room, there is a Studio in
which one or more performers will be assembled, usually with microphones
so that their voices can become part of the mix. Speakers may be provided in
the Studio to allow the talent to listen to the various console bus outputs at
times that they are not actually on air. These speakers are fed from the
console’s stereo Studio output. The STUDIO MONITOR consists of a
STUDIO SELECT BUTTON, a STUDIO DISPLAY, a STUDIO LEVEL
CONTROL, and a TALKBACK BUTTON.
As in the Control Room, the potential for feedback also exists in the Studio.
The talent microphones will usually provide a part of the signal that is going
out over the air. If that signal is the one being monitored with the Studio
speakers, feedback will occur. To prevent this, the Studio mic faders are
usually set to MUTE the Studio output to prevent the occurrence of feedback.
The installer may have provided a source for studio headphones which will
not be affected by the studio mute.
STUDIO Select Button
The STUDIO SELECT BUTTON lets the operator choose the source to
be listened to in the Studio. The source can be any signal appearing at a console
input connector (except the producer talkback input), any of the four main
buses, either of the caller feed mix-minus buses, or either of the general
purpose mix-minus buses.
Press the STUDIO SELECT BUTTON. The button lights, the CHANNEL
DISPLAY shows ST MON, and the SOURCE DISPLAY shows the signal
currently feeding the Studio output. The ENTER BUTTON begins to flash.
Turn the SELECT KNOB until the desired source shows in the SOURCE
DISPLAY, then press the ENTER BUTTON (the ENTER BUTTON stops
flashing). This selects the displayed source as the source for the Studio
speakers. The source name also shows in the STUDIO DISPLAY, and the
STUDIO SELECT BUTTON light goes off. If an input is set up to mute the
Studio, then the Studio speakers will mute if that input is selected as the Studio
monitor source.
Whenever the Studio mute is activated, PGM may automatically be
selected as the Studio source. The installer, however, may have disabled this
feature.
If you don’t hit the ENTER BUTTON or move the SELECT KNOB for
ten seconds the select process will terminate, leaving the selection for the
phone section unchanged.
