3. Product description
3.1 Intended use
The FSA 500 is a portable tester for use in motor vehi-
cle workshops.
The FSA 500 is suitable for the checking of vehicles
with spark ignition, Wankel and diesel engines and
can be used for testing all the electrical and electronic
systems on passenger cars, commercial vehicles and
motorcycles.
The FSA 500 picks up vehicle-specific signals and
relays them via Bluetooth or the USB interface to a
PC/Laptop (not included in the scope of delivery).
FSA 500 CompacSoft [plus] must be installed on the
PC/Laptop.
! The FSA 500 is not suitable for use as a measuring
instrument for test drives.
! The maximum permissible measurement volt-
age at the Multi measurement inputs is
60VDC/30VAC/42VACpeak. FSA 500 is therefore
not to be used for checking isolation from the supply
on electric and hybrid vehicles.
FSA 500 CompacSoft [plus] features the following
functions:

R Multimeter measurements for voltage, current and
resistance
R Signal generator (e.g. for checking sensors)
R Component test (checking of vehicle components)
R Characteristic curve tracer
R 4-channel/2-channel universal oscilloscope
R Ignition oscilloscope Primary
R Ignition oscilloscope Secondary
R Insulation measurements with FSA 050
(special accessory)
For the assessment of measurement results, confirmed
"go" measurement curves can be stored as reference in
the measurement system.
3.2 Prerequisites for operation with
FSA 500 CompacSoft [plus]
PC/Laptop with operating system WIN XP SP2 (32 Bit),
WIN Vista
TM
(32/64 Bit), WIN 7 (32/64 Bit) or WIN 8
(32/64 Bit) and at least one vacant USB interface for
the Bluetooth USB adapter or USB connecting cable.
Minimum requirements for PC/laptop:
R CPU Intel / AMD Dual-Core 1.1 GHz or higher
R RAM 1 GB
R DVD drive
R Minimum 5 GB available hard disk space
The current version of FSA 500 CompacSoft [plus]
must be installed on the PC/laptop or on DCU 130.
! The FSA 500 CompacSoft [plus] software and
FSA7xx/FSA050 CompacSoft [plus] software can-
not be installed on DCU 130 or on PC/laptop simul-
taneously.
i For motor vehicle identification via customer data or
key numbers as well as for control unit diagnosis with
CAS[plus], the latest ESI[tronic] software (Info type
A and C) must be installed on the PC/Laptop and
released. Control unit diagnosis is possible only with
a KTS module. This is subject to additional cost.
