Preliminary on Verso page is set with right edge at 7 and 7/8,
and the top (as on the Recto page) at 1/4.
Setting the Vehicles Unloaded Top Speed
The controller and vehicle should be congured as follows before starting this
procedure:
Max Speed = 100%
Drive Current Limit as established in procedure
Field Map = 50%
Field Map Start = 50% of the specied drive current limit
Field Min = motor manufacturers specied minimum (if available);
otherwise, 5 amps
Load Comp = 0
The vehicle should be unloaded
The vehicle battery should be fully charged.
The vehicle should be driven on a flat surface in a clear area during this
procedure. Since the vehicle may initially be traveling at speeds in excess of the
nal intended speed, precautions should be taken to ensure safety of test
personnel and anyone in the test area.
STEP 1. Select the programmers Program Menu and scroll down until the
Field Min parameter is visible in the display.
STEP 2. Power up the vehicle and apply full throttle. While driving the
vehicle with full throttle applied, adjust the Field Min parameter
to set the desired top speed. Increasing the Field Min value
decreases the vehicles top speed; decreasing the Field Min value
increases the vehicles top speed.
CAUTION:
Do not decrease the
Field Min below the motor manufacturers recommended mini-
mum eld current value. And, as a general rule, do not increase
Field Min above the following values.
150 amp controller 8 amps
250 amp controller 10 amps
350 amp controller 15 amps
STEP 3. If the Field Min is increased to the listed value and the vehicles
top speed has still not been sufciently reduced, the Max Speed
parameter should be used to bring the top speed down to the
desired level. First, decrease the Field Min value, setting it to
optimize smooth starting. Then adjust the Max Speed parameter
per Step 4 to bring the vehicles top speed down to the desired
level. NOTE: If the Field Min parameter is set too high, the high
initial torque created by the high eld current may cause overly
abrupt starts; this is why we recommend using the Max Speed
parameter in those cases where a moderate Field Min setting does
not sufciently reduce the vehicles top speed.
STEP 4. Scroll up the Program Menu until the Max Speed parameter is
visible in the display. While driving the vehicle with the Field
