Drive Axle Oil - Change
NOTE : Change the differential oil on lift trucks
that are operated under wet conditions or measure
oil level on lift trucks that operate under dry condi-
tions. Clean the housing breather under either
condition.
1. Lift the carriage high enough to gain access to
the differential housing level-fill plug and breather.
2. Put blocks under the carriage.
3. Remove the housing breather. Wash it in clean,
nonflammable solvent.
4. Install the breather if the housing is not required
to be drained.
5. Measure the differential lubricant level on lift
trucks on which differentials are not required to be
drained. See topic, Ò Transmission Oil LevelÓ in
ÒEvery 10 Service Hours or Daily Ó
6. To drain the differential housing, remove the
housing drain plug. Allow the lubricant to drain.
7. Clean and install the housing drain plug.
8. Remove the oil level plug.
9. Fill the housing with lubricant to the bottom of
the oil level plug opening.
10. Clean and install the oil level plug .
11. Install the breather.
12. Remove the blocks from under the
carriage.Lower the carriage.
13. Operate the lift truck for a few minutes. Check
for leaks.
