Derailleur*
This system lifts the chain on to a spro-
cket when the gear is changed. The
chain must continue moving so that the
teeth of the sprocket can engage with
the chain links easily and smoothly. For
a successful gear change, therefore, you
must keep pedalling forwards, never
backwards – but at the same time pedal
lightly without force.
Hub gear*
Here the change of gear takes place in-
side the rear wheel hub. Space is very
tight inside the hub, so it is sensible to
pedal lightly when changing gear.

3.10.1 FAG electronic shift unit

The FAG shift unit is an electronic cycle shifter. It comprises a switch
actuator and a communication module. On the Impulse Evo RS system,
the switch actuator is in the down tube and the communication module
on the motor holder. The switch actuator uses a shift cable to perform the
mechanical movement at the cycle shifter connected.
