Notes on Approval
1Marking
Serial No.
1)
1 The year of manufacture is indicated by the third letter in the serial num-
ber: T = 2003, U = 2004, W = 2005, X = 2006, Y = 2007, Z = 2008,
A = 2009, B = 2010, C = 2011, etc.
Example: Serial No. ARUH-0054: the third letter is U, which means that
the unit was manufactured in 2004.

2 Intended Operating Area and Operating
Conditions
Hazardous Areas classified by Zones
The device is intended to be used in hazardous areas or
mines susceptible to firedamp classified zone 1 or zone 2,
within a temperature range of –20
o
C...+50
o
C, where
gases of explosion groups IIA, IIB or IIC and temperature
class T3 or T4 (depending on battery pack and batteries)
may be present.
If used in mines, the device is only to be used in areas
known to have a low risk of mechanical impact.
Hazardous Areas classified by Divisions
The device is intended to be used in hazardous areas or
mines susceptible to firedamp classified Class I&II, Div. 1
or Div. 2, within a temperature range of –20
o
C...+50
o
C,
where gases or dusts of groups A, B, C, D or E, F, G and
temperature class T3 or T4 (depending on battery pack
and batteries) may be present.
3 Instructions for Safety
To reduce the risk of ignition of a flammable or explosive
atmosphere, strictly adhere to the following Caution and
Warning statements:
Only the combustible gas detection portion of this instru-
ment has been assessed for performance.
CAUTION
Use only battery packs type ABT 00xx or HBT 00xx. See
marking on battery pack for approved batteries and rela-
ted Temperature code.
WARNING
Do not change batteries in hazardous locations!
WARNING
Do not mix new batteries with used batteries, or mix bat-
teries of different type or manufacturer.
WARNING
Remove batteries before servicing.
WARNING
Substitution of components may impair Intrinsic Safety.
CAUTION
Not tested in oxygen enriched atmospheres (> 21 % O
2
).
CAUTION
High off scale readings may indicate an explosive con-
centration.
CAUTION
Before each day’s usage sensitivity must be tested on a
known concentration of the gas to be detected equivalent
to 25 - 50 % of full scale concentration. Accuracy must be
within 0 to +20 % of actual. Accuracy may be corrected
by calibration.
