loose clothing is allowed.
( REV. 08-04 )
DO NOT PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON THE INTERIOR OF THE TUB DURING
WET WEATHER CONDITIONS
1.9 Fire Prevention
Grinding with a tub grinder produces a large amount of potentially combustible material. The risks of re can be
signicantly reduced with proper operating and maintenance procedures. This does include frequent removal of dust,
debris, and other combustible materials.
If grinding dry material have a water source available to suppress a re. If grinding extremely dry
materials, wet them down to suppress dust and prevent res.
Most of the products that are ground are dry and the grinding process can produce ne, dusty material. The grinding
process can produce heat and the spinning rotor will circulate air within the grinding chamber. For a re to start, fuel,
oxygen and heat in sufcient quantity, must be present. During normal operation and with a properly maintained tub
grinder, the material being ground will move through the grinding chamber so quickly that it doesn’t have a chance to
heat up sufciently to start a re. Also, the rapid rate that a tub grinder can pile material will quickly smother small hot
spots that might occur during normal grinding operations. Keeping the material moving through the machine and across
the top of the rotor is important to keep frictional heating of the material to a minimum.
NEVER leave the vicinity of the unit with the engine running.
