Note: Use only Exmark P ar t No . 109-4180 for
Summer use abo v e 32°F (0°C) or P/N 1-523541 for
Winter use belo w 32°F (0°C) (R efer to T ransmission
section in Specications for lter specications).
1. Stop engine , w ait for all mo ving par ts to stop , and
remo v e k ey or spark plug wire(s). Eng ag e parking
brak e .
2. R emo v e and retain the thigh pad and rear guard.
3. Raise the rear of mac hine up and suppor t with
jac k stands (or equi v alent suppor t) just high
enough to allo w dri v e wheels to tur n freely .
4. Use a catc h pan when draining the h y dro oil.
5. Place a catc h pan under the h y dro lter .
6. Carefully clean area around lter . It is impor tant
that no dir t or contamination enter h y draulic
system.
7. Unscrew lter to remo v e and allo w oil to drain
from reser v oir . R emo v e clamp and one hose from
the reser v oir to fully drain the mac hine .
Important: Bef or e r einstalling new lter , ll
it with Exmar k Pr emium Hy dr o oil and appl y
a thin coat of oil on the surf ace of the r ub ber
seal.
T ur n lter cloc kwise until r ubber seal contacts the
lter adapter , then tighten the lter an additional
2/3 to 3/4 tur n.
8. R einstall the hose and clamp onto reser v oir tting .
9. Exmark Premium Hy dro Oil is recommended
to ll the reser v oir . R efer to the c har t for an
acce ptable alter nati v e:

10. Fill reser v oir as stated in Check Hy draulic Oil
Lev el.
11. Loosen lter 1/2 tur n and allo w a small amount
of oil to leak from the oil lter (this allo ws air to
be purg ed from the oil lter and supply hose from
the h y draulic reser v oir). T ur n lter cloc kwise
until r ubber seal contacts the lter adapter . T hen
tighten the lter an additional 2/3 to 3/4 tur n.
12. Star t engine and mo v e throttle control ahead to
full throttle position. Diseng ag e parking brak e
and mo v e motion control lev ers forw ard with
equal pressure , and r un for one min ute . Shut
do wn the mac hine , allo w the h y dros to cool.
13. Chec k the lev el of the h y draulic oil; refer to
Check Hy draulic Oil Lev el section.
14. If either dri v e wheel does not rotate , one or both
of the c harg e pumps ma y ha v e lost their “prime . ”
R efer to Hy draulic System Air Purge section.
15. R einstall the rear guard and thigh pad.
16. R emo v e the jac k stands .
Note: Do Not c hang e h y draulic system oil (ex ce pt
for what can be drained when c hanging lter), unless
it is felt the oil has been contaminated or been
extremely hot.
Changing oil unnecessarily could damag e h y draulic
system b y introducing contaminates into the system.
