Operation
F or All S-Series Models and X-Series Non-EFI
Models:
T he star ter will crank with the PTO switc h in the
“ON” (pulled up) position; ho w ev er , the system will
diseng ag e the PTO and a PTO reset er ror will occur .
Eng aging the PTO will require the operator to reset
the PTO switc h b y tur ning it “OFF” (pushed do wn)
and then tur ning it “ON”.
Deck Lift Handle
Located on the RH side of the front control panel.
T o unlatc h from transpor t, slightly pull the handle
rearw ard and push the button do wn on top of the
lev er to diseng ag e the transpor t loc k. Allo w the
handle to mo v e forw ard to lo w er the cutting dec k to
the cut height that has been set.
T o raise to transpor t position, push the button do wn
on top of the lev er to diseng ag e the dec k lift latc h.
Pull the handle all the w a y rearw ard and release
the button to latc h the cutting dec k into the raised
transpor t position.
Electronic Control Unit Malfunction
Indicator
EFI Units Only:
T he electronic control unit (ECU) contin uously
monitors operation of the EFI system. If a problem
or F ault within the system is detected, the malfunction
indicator light (MIL) is illuminated. T he MIL is the
light located in the left console panel to the left of the
throttle control. F ollo w the T roubleshooting ste ps
outlined in the engine operator’ s man ual if the MIL
is illuminated.

• Ev aluate the ter rain to deter mine what accessories
and attac hments are needed to properly and
safely perfor m the job . Only use accessories and
attac hments appro v ed b y Exmark.
• Inspect the area where the mac hine is to be used
and remo v e all roc ks , to ys , stic ks , wires , bones ,
and other foreign objects . T hese can be thro wn
or interfere with the operation of the mac hine
and ma y cause personal injur y to the operator or
b ystanders .
• T his mo w er w as designed for one operator only .

• W ear appropriate personal protecti v e equipment
suc h as safety glasses , long pants , substantial
slip-resistant footw ear , and hearing protection.

loose jew elr y whic h ma y g et tangled in mo ving
par ts .
• T his mac hine produces sound lev els in ex cess of
85 dB A at the operator’ s ear and can cause hearing
loss through extended periods of exposure . W ear
hearing protection when operating this mac hine .
• Chec k that the follo wing items are in place and in
proper w orking condition: the operator presence
controls , safety switc hes , guards , shields , disc harg e
deector and/or the entire g rass catc her system.
Do not operate the mac hine unless they are in
proper w orking condition. R e place w or n or
deteriorated par ts with g en uine Exmark par ts
when necessar y .
DANGER
It is essential that operator safety mechanisms
be connected and in pr oper operating
condition prior to use. Contacting the blade
can r esult in serious per sonal injur y .
Shut of f the engine, r emo v e the k ey , and w ait
f or all mo ving par ts to stop bef or e lea ving the
operating position. W hen the k ey is tur ned to
the “OFF” position, the engine should shut
of f and the blade should stop . If not, stop
using the machine immediatel y and contact
an Authoriz ed Ser vice Dealer .
• Do Not operate the mo w er when people ,
especially c hildren, or pets are in the area. Shut
off the mac hine and attac hment(s) if any one
enters the area.
• Do Not operate the mac hine without the entire
g rass collection system, disc harg e deector ,
or other safety devices in place and in proper
w orking condition. Grass catc her components
are subject to w ear , damag e and deterioration,
whic h could expose mo ving par ts or allo w objects
to be thro wn. F requently c hec k for w or n or
deteriorating components and re place them with
the man ufacturer’ s recommended par ts when
necessar y .
