the roll angle of the airplane. The display will
blank from the PFD for invalid attitude roll in-
formation.
Attitude Reference Aircraft Symbol
Two types of aircraft symbols are available. The
airplane symbol displayed will depend on
which flight director cue is selected via the dis-
play controller CUE button. If the “single-
cue” is selected the airplane is represented by
a flat yellow triangle and the flight director
command bars are a pair of opposing, wedge
shaped, magenta bars (Figure 16-31). If the
“cross-pointer” flight director cue is selected
(Figure 16-32), the airplane symbol consists
of two horizontal “L” shaped symbols (repre-
senting airplane wings) and a single small
square in the middle (representing airplane
fuselage). The command bars in this case are
a pitch steering bar (horizontal magenta bar)
and a bank steering bar (vertical magenta bar).
Attitude Declutter System
When an excessive attitude situation exists,
certain symbology is automatically removed
to declutter the PFD. An excessive or unusual
attitude is defined as: a roll attitude that ex-
ceeds 65° or a pitch attitude in excess of 30°
nose up or 20° nose down. The following sym-
bology is removed from display:
Flight director mode annunciations com-
mand bars and couple arrow
Low bank limit arc
Vertical deviation scale, pointer and label
Marker beacons
Radio altitude digital readout and box
Decision height digital readout and label
Minimum descent altitude digital readout,
label and bug
Selected airspeed bug, digital readout
and outline
V speed bugs and readouts
All failure flags for the above listed items
The following comparison monitor an-
nunciations:
Heading
Radio altitude
Localizer
Glideslope
ILS
The symbology will be restored when the roll
attitude has been reduced to less than 63° and
the pitch attitude is less than 28° nose up and
less than 18° nose down.
Autopilot Annunciations
Autopilot and yaw damper status is displayed
above the ADI, as illustrated in Figure 16-31.
Flight Director
Flight director (FD) annunciations are dis-
played as illustrated in Figures 16-31, 16-32
and 16-34. The FD provides the following in-
formation:
Left and right couple arrow status
Lateral and vertical flight director modes
capture and arm status
Flight director command bar display data
Low bank arc limits
Autopilot overspeed warning
In the event of a flight director failure, an
amber FD FAIL is displayed in the lateral
mode annunciation box above the ADI, and the
flight director mode annunciations and cue
are removed.
