main menu, or the menu that created the dis-
play, to deselect or change a display option.
MFD Main Menu
A submenu selection is made by pressing the
bezel key located beneath the desired menu
item on the MFD main menu (Figure 16-42).
The main menu is the default menu at power-
up and all of the submenus have a RTN (return)
option on them that returns the operator to
the main menu. The main menu has three op-
tions for submenus and three options (two if
TCAS is not installed) for controlling the
MFD display. It also has a M/P RNG
(MAP/PLAN range) label above the bezel set
knob whenever WX is not selected for display
on the MFD. The bezel set knob is multi-func-
tional. It is used to select range on the MFD
MAP or PLAN displays when WX is not se-
lected and it is used to manually set speeds
when the VSpeed menu is being used.
TCAS – If the optional TCAS is installed, de-
pressing the bezel button beneath TCAS on the
main menu causes a white box to appear
around “TCAS”. This indicates that TCAS is
selected for display in the window on the bot-
tom half of the MFD (Figure 16-38). The
TCAS is then controlled through the
ATC/TCAS window on the RMU.
WX – Weather radar can be displayed on the
MFD MAP by selecting the bezel button be-
neath WX on the main menu. The radar, in-
cluding range, is controlled from the radar
control panel on the center pedestal. If WX is
selected on the menu for display, but radar is
OFF, the range defaults to 100 NM.
MAP/PLAN – The bezel button beneath the
MAP and PLAN menu items is used to toggle
between the MAP (Figure 16-38) and PLAN
(Figure 16-40) displays on the MFD. MAP is
the power-up default selection.
System Menu
The system menu (Figure 16-42) gives the
operator the capability to select a summary of
systems indications (SUMRY) or a system
schematic of the listed systems for display at
the bottom of the MFD display. This is the
same menu and display options that are avail-
able at the bottom of the EICAS display.
Illustrations of the systems schematics are
found in the related chapters of this manual,
i.e. electrical, hydraulic, environmental con-
trol systems (Air Conditioning chapter), flight
controls, and fuel. When a system is selected
for display, the menu label is boxed (in white)
and a RTN label appears above it. If that bezel
button is depressed a second time, the main
menu is displayed.
MFD Menu
The MFD menu (Figure 16-37) provides the
opportunity to select two other sub-menus,
and three other menu items to control the MFD
MAP/PLAN displays. Using the second and
third button SPDS (speeds) and JSTK (joy-
stick) is selectable.
The NAV and APT labels, above the fifth but-
ton, allow selection of NAVAIDs and airports
on the MFD MAP or PLAN display. NDBs
will not plot on the MFD on initial production
airplanes, but the plan is to add this capabil-
ity in the future. The bezel button action is a
four step toggle with the power-up default
being OFF. The first press of the button will
box NAV (NAVAIDs) on the menu and display
up to eight of the closest VORs/VORTACs or
NDBs on the MFD. The second press of the
button will box APT (airports) on the menu and
display up to four airports on the MFD. The
third press, both NAV and APT are boxed and
displays on the MFD are as above.
NAVAID/Airport information is provided from
the navigation data base in the FMS. The
fourth activation of the bezel button deselects
both NAV and APT.
