System limits
The HOLDfunction is onlyintendedtoprovide

away when stationary.

Activating/deactivatingthe HOLDfunction
Requirements:

The vehicle is stationary.
R
The engine is running or it hasbeenautomati‐
cally switched offbythe ECOstart/stopfunc‐
tion.

The driver is seated and belted.
R
The electric parking brakeisreleased.
R
Vehicles with automatic transmission: the
selector leverisinposition h, k or i.
R
ActiveDistance Assist DISTRONICisdeactiva‐
ted.
Activatingthe HOLDfunction

If youleave thevehicle while onlythe HOLD
function is braking thevehicle, thevehicle
can roll away in thefollowing situations:

If thereisamalfunction in thesystemor
in thepower supply.

If theHOLD function is deactivated by
depressing theacceleratorpedalorbrake
pedal, e.g. by avehicle occupant.

Alwaysdeactivatethe HOLD function
and securethe vehicle againstrolling
away beforeleaving thevehicle.

NOTE Damage from automatic braking
When ActiveBrake Assist,ActiveDistance
Assist DISTRONICorthe HOLD function are
activated, thevehicle brakes autonomously in
certainsituations.
To avoid damagetothe vehicle, deactivate
these systems in thefollowing or similarsit‐
uations:

During towing
#
In acar wash
#
Makesurethat theactivation conditions are
met.
#
Depress thebrake pedal until the ë dis‐
playappearsinthe multifunction display.
The HOLD function is activated. Youcan
release thebrake pedal.

If depressing thebrake pedal thefirst time
does notactivate theHOLD function, wait
briefly and then tryagain.
Deactivating the HOLD function
The HOLD function is deactivated in thefollowing
situations:

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
depress theaccelerator pedal when theauto‐
matic transmission is in position h or k.

Depress thebrake pedal again withsufficient
pressureuntil the ë displayinthe multi‐
function displaygoes out.

ActivateActiveDistance Assist DISTRONIC.

Vehicles with automatic transmission: the
automatic transmissionofyour vehicle shifts
to j aftersome time. This relievesthe load
on theservice brake.
When theHOLD function is activated, theauto‐
matic transmission automaticallyshifts to j in
thefollowing situations:

The driver leavesthe driver's seat.

The driver's door is opened.
R
The engine is switched offwithout theECO
start/stop function.

Function of therear viewcamerawith inside
rearviewmirrordisplay
The rear viewcameraisconnectedtothe vehi‐
cle's inside rearviewmirror. When youengage
reversegear therear viewcamera's image
appearsinthe leftareaofthe inside rearview
mirror. It is thereforepossible to see what is
behind thevehicle when backing up.
The rear viewcamerawithinside rearviewmirror
displayisonlyanaid. It is notasubstitutefor you
paying attention to thesurroundings. Youare
alwaysresponsiblefor safemaneuvering and
parking. Makesurethat thereare no persons,
animals or objectsetc. in themaneuvering area
while maneuvering and parking in parking
spaces.
The rear viewcamerawithinside rearviewmirror
displaymay showadistorted viewofobstacles,
showthem incorrectly or notatall.Itcannot
