Interchanging thefront and rear wheels if the
wheels or tires have different dimensions may
severely impair thedriving characteristics.
The wheel brakes or wheel suspension com‐
ponentsmay also be damaged.

Rotate front and rear wheels onlyifthe
wheels and tires areofthe same dimen‐
sions.
On vehicles that have thesame size front and
rear wheels,rotatethe wheels according to the
intervals in thetiremanufacturer's warrantybook
in your vehicle documents. If this is notavailable,
rotate thetires every 3,000 (5,000) to
6,000 miles(10,000 km),depending on the
degree of wear.Ensurethat thedirection of rota‐
tionismaintained.
It is imperative to observe theinstructionsand
safetynotes on "Changing awheel" when doing
so.
Wheel size categories of wheels
The determined vehicle speed is displayedinthe
instrument clusterand is important forcontrol‐
ling thedriving safetysystems and driving sys‐
tems. The displayaccuracy of thespeedometer
and theodometerislegally prescribed.Determin‐
ing thespeed is dependent on thetiresize or the
rolling circumferenceofthe tires. The rimdiame‐
terisalwaysspecified in inches.
Forthis reason,the vehicle controlunitscan be
coded forthe following wheel size categories:

Mercedes-Benz recommends that youstay
within awheel sizecategorywhen changing a
tire. In this way, youavoid recoding thecon‐
trol units.
If youchangethe wheel size of your vehicle, for
instance when changing wheels forwinter opera‐
tion, checkthat it is assigned to thecorrect
wheel size category.Ifthe wheel size category
changes, youmusthave your vehicle's control
unitsrecoded at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Otherwise, thedisplayaccuracy of thespeedom‐
eter and theodometerwillbeoutsidethe legally
prescribed tolerance. It mayalso be lower, i.e.
thecurrent road speed is then higher than the
speed shown on thespeedometer. If adeviation
is outside therangeoftolerance, driving safety
systems and driving systems maybeoperation‐
ally impaired or maydetect amalfunction and
switchthemselves off.
