6 Processors
V CAUTION!
Observe the safety instructions in the chapter “Safety notes” on
page 13ff.
V CAUTION!
Processors are modules which can react extremely sensitively to electro-
static discharges and which must therefore always be handled with care.
After a processor has been removed from its protective sleeve or from its
socket, place it with its smooth side down on a non-conducting, antistatic
surface. Never push a processor over a surface.
6.1 Installing a second processor
The system board can be upgraded with a second processor. The upgrade kit
consists of a processor, a heat sink, and a processor fan.
V CAUTION!
Only processors of the same type may be used on the system board. The
second processor must have at least the same clock frequency as the
first processor. The server always configures itself to the lower clock
frequency of the two processors. For dual operation, use a suitable multi-
processor operating system.
Ê Open the server as described in the chapter “Preparation” on page 19ff.
Ê Remove the ventilation duct over the main memory (see page 28).
