3 Service and Maintenance
BeforeattemptingtoservicetheModel5120TEGyoushouldbethoroughlyfamiliarwiththe
operationofthisgenerator.ItissuggestedthatyoureviewSections1and2beforeattempting
toservicethisTEG.
3.1 Suggested Periodic Maintenance
TheTEGisasolid-statehigh-reliabilitydevicethatrequiresverylittlemaintenance.However,
it does require periodic service checks in order to provide the years of trouble free service
ofwhich itis capable.Themaintenanceintervaldependson thesite conditions(fuelpurity,
weather,etc.)andmustbeestablishedbasedonsiteexperience.Fieldexperienceindicates
thataproperlyinstalledTEGusuallyrequiresmaintenanceonlyonceayear.Formaximum
reliabilitythefollowingseriesofservicechecksarerecommended.
Toolsrequiredforannualservice:
• 1 voltmeter
• 1 atheadscrewdriver
• 1 phillipsscrewdriver
• 1 9/16”wrenchesoranadjustablewrench
• 1 FuelFilterKit(Part#3400-22363)
Atleastonceayear,performaPowerCheckasoutlinedbelow.Thisshouldbetherstproce-
dureduringanyservicevisitandwilldeterminewhatfurtherservicemaybeneeded.
3.1.1 Power Check
ThePowerCheckiscompletedtoensuretheTEGisoperatingatthecorrectV
set
forthecurrent
ambienttemperature.Thisshouldbetherstprocedurecompletedduringanyservicevisitand
willdeterminewhatfurtherservicemayberequired.
1) DeterminetheratedV
set
forthecurrentambienttemperature(seeSection2.6.1).
2) MovethejumperclipontheterminalblockTB-1tobetweenterminals3and4.
3) Connectavoltmeterbetweenterminals2(+)and4(-).ThisisV
set
andshouldmatchthe
V
set
forthecurrenttemperatureseesection2.6.1.
If the measured V

is more than 0.2 volts above rated V
set
:The fuel pressure must be
reduced.ProceedwiththebasicserviceasperSection3.1.2,butremembertoadjustthefuel
pressureduringrestartorbeforeleavingthesite,seeSection2.6.DONOTcontinuetooperate
aboveSetPower.
If the measured Vset is within 0.2 volts of rated Vset:TheTEGisfunctioningwellandrequires
onlythebasicserviceindicatedinSection3.1.2below.
