There are other methods to protect yourself, in
addition to the safety guard. However, some type
of safety guard must be used at all times.
To assemble the safety guard:
1. Attach the shaft mount bracket (See Figure
20) to the back of the table with the hex bolts
and lock washers already mounted to the
table.
2. Insert the shaft (Figure 20) into the bracket
so the flat surface faces away from the
machine.
3. Slide the extension bracket (Figure 20)
through the shaft and secure it with the lock
knob.
4. Using the two

16" -18 x

4" flat head screws
and hex nuts, tightly secure the extension bar
to the main guard. See Figure
20.
5. Attach the guard assembly to the shaft
assembly and tighten the lock handle.
Note: To provide additional protection for
your hands, you
MUST build a box guard and
mount it to the safety guard. (See
Page 24).
Safety Guard
All guards MUST be installed on your shaper
before operating it. Shapers are dangerous
machines that can quickly cause serious
injury if some kind of guard is not used. To
protect yourself, read and follow the entire
instruction manual carefully and do addi-
tional research on shop made guards and
safety jigs.
